As the police sirens blare and an imaginary skyline glows in the distance, Zhu keeps things moving with his stylish, conceptual first foray, Generationwhy. My thoughts on new tracks Cold blooded: good sax and an excellent synth section. Founded all the way back in 1887, the company is now the oldest surviving brand name in recorded sound, and only the second to produce recorded records. Good life: great riff combined with outstanding vocals. Thought Secret Weapon would be a lot better than what it is. Dunno if it goes in the 52 to Zhu tape but it's in there.
This, is an impressive compilation. I am my own ghostwriter. Particularly the playful dropUnderwhelming zhu vocals as they seem offbeat at some points but well performed by the female. I'll really enjoy this in the car. I'm still unsure about One Minute to Midnight. Thanks for the amazing work! Reaching: basic chords but fits perfectly with female vocals.
Numb: good track that keeps getting better as the song progresses. As always I'm digging the dark vocals which clashes very well with the light chords. Overall it's a great fun record though. Week 39 - Sex is sometimes. I think it will grow on me though. Vocals also seem to be too high pitched at some point where it reaches a point of breakage.
Listened to it through Spotify and don't know if it's the compression previously or just getting used to it, but suddenly the instruments have bite and everything sounds 'alive'. Near perfect pitch in vocals. I think this will grow even more on me and actually become one of my favourites on here. I actually think that the narration adds to the soul of the track. Agree with one of the reviews I read that the album could have benefited from a few more guest vocalists.
It starts so well and then only down-hill from there. Decent range in vocals Secret weapon : lovely vibes here. Could use a kicker in terms of its chords though Hometown girl: really enjoyable chill thing. If anyone has a piece they wanna add feel free. With great carriage Electrify me: dissapointed. And it is an interesting insight into a hardworking producer that eventually became the Zhu we know and love today. Over 125 years later, it is safe to say that Columbia Records, now part of the Sony Music Group, has established itself a timeless icon in music.
Which is odd as it seems a bit like electro swing which I'm usually fond of. As a society, we become more attached to the creator than to the creation. Vocals don't flow properly with the beat for the first half. Great instrumentals in the last half. With the exception of the end sequence the instrumentals seem very basic. Please remember not to include any download links! I just copied it from youtube's comment section.
That being said, I find some of this shit bangsssss. The album is tightly focused with a deep house rhythm bubbling from start to finish. A bit too chill actually. Maybe consider an update to your tracklist! There isn't a single song on it that I would skip. Has a smooth line throughout that is enjoyable for single plays at a time.
I can see why some would not enjoy that though. Found a tracklisting and was able to put the songs in the order they were released but it's not complete. This thread is for you to share all your thoughts on the new album. Also, some of his other stuff below too. Reminds me of old deadmau5 kinda.
Sadly I have no time marks. Second half of the album is kinda boring in my opinion. I think I expected something else. One minute to midnight: I like how this almost feels like Mexican meets house. Not necessarily better because I think it is good for the genre he is going for but I was hoping and getting hyped for something a bit more punchy and dark with the less light playful theme. Generationwhy, the debut effort from electronic producer Zhu, is the neon noir soundtrack for the future-past, at once nostalgic and innovative in its combination of funky throwback influences and forward-thinking production. Tracks seamlessly blend together, offering a consistent experience, with a handful of standouts that perk up to keep the energy flowing.
